You can see that it’s fake. Not too long ago, automakers at least tried to make you think that the massive expanse of black plastic increasing the drag coefficient at the front of the car was some sort of functional path for air cooling the engine, or brakes, or something. Now fakey-ness is a design element?

I pray that we’ve reached peak insanity and that soon air intakes will be real, belt lines will be lowered, exhaust sounds will be legitimate expressions of performance, and cars will be available in actual colors instead of shades of gray, plus maybe red.

Thank you for your time.

If the government is going to put tariffs on imported cars , maybe it should be keyed on the ratio of real vents to fake ones.

This is a “ good” example of fake grills as it has those in both front and in the rear. It might be a fast car but it looks pretty ridiculous with its vast number of ae ro and vent pieces.

Toyota insists that gigantic, ugly, and mostly fake grilles test well with younger buyers and that making the Avalon look terrible will suddenly make millennials want to buy something that isn't a crossover.

I’m convinced it’s more than just aesthetics.

Black plastic = cheaper than painted urethane (or whatever bumper covers are made out of these days).

Uniform = economies of scale

Lighter = better fuel mileage

Plus the added bonus of “hiding” the radar sensor(s).

“Track package” option with actually open and working grilles?
